Power the Vote and the Texas Democratic Party Announce Voter Protection Partnership

ATLANTA / AUSTIN – Power the Vote (www.powerthevote.org) and the Texas Democratic Party (“TDP”) announced that Power the Vote has partnered with TDP to fund voter protection work for the 2022 cycle. Power the Vote’s investments will support the TDP’s ongoing efforts to build statewide voter protection infrastructure to ensure that elections in Texas are more free, fair, and accessible for all voters.

TDP’s voter protection program, in partnership with Power the Vote, will operate throughout the year and support voters in every Texas county, including through:

  • A voter education program, to educate voters on how to navigate the complex maze of new voting requirements under S.B. 1, as well as the continued use of MyTexasVotes.com, which has helped hundreds of thousands of voters access information on where and how to vote.
  • A voter assistance hotline, staffed by trained volunteers and legal professionals, where voters can report obstacles to voting and get the information they need to register and vote. For any questions about voting, problems, or to share their voting experience, Texans can call 1-844-TX-VOTES (1-844-898-6837).
  • A poll watching program where a dedicated and trained team of volunteers will serve as voters’ advocates at the polling place, ensuring their rights are being protected.
  • An advocacy initiative to encourage all levels of Texas government to adopt practices that best support voters, within the confines of Texas law.

Rose Clouston, TDP’s Voter Protection Director, said, “Texas Republicans keep putting up barriers to the ballot box, and Texas Democrats keep finding ways to break down those barriers. We are doing what the State of Texas refuses to do for our voters.  We are providing support to voters by  helping them access their fundamental right to vote. We are thrilled about this partnership with Power the Vote – their support will allow us to help voters in every corner of Texas and make sure they have the resources they need to cast their ballot.”

Power the Vote Co-Founder (and Texas resident) Kimberley Allen said, “Power the Vote is proud to support the Texas Democratic Party’s efforts to fight for Texas voters. Texas is not only an important battleground state – it is also critical to the fight for democracy. Our investment in Texas reflects our commitment to ensuring that every voter has their voice heard.”

Power the Vote Co-Founder Jamil Favors added, “Texas is not a red state – it is a voter suppression state. That’s why investments in voter protection will be critical to efforts to flip Texas blue. We are excited to partner with the Texas Democratic Party to support their work to dismantle barriers to voting and uplift the voices of marginalized voters.”

TDP is recruiting poll watchers for the March 1, 2022 Primary Elections. Those interested in volunteering can sign up by visiting:  https://txdem.co/pri22-vopro
